Coronary Angioplasty

Angioplasty (or balloon angioplasty) is an endovascular procedure to widen narrowed or obstructed arteries or veins, typically to treat arterial atherosclerosis. An empty, collapsed balloon, known as a balloon catheter, is passed over a wire into the narrowed locations and then inflated to a fixed size. The balloon forces expansion of the stenosis (narrowing) within the vessel and the surrounding muscular wall, opening up the blood vessel for improved flow, and the balloon is then deflated and withdrawn. A stent may or may not be inserted at the time of ballooning to ensure the vessel remains open. Read More

Coronary Angiography

A coronary catheterization is a minimally invasive procedure to access the coronary circulation and blood filled chambers of the heart using a catheter. It is performed for both diagnostic and interventional (treatment) purposes.
Coronary catheterization is one of the several cardiology diagnostic tests and procedures. Specifically, coronary catheterization is a visually interpreted test performed to recognize occlusion, stenosis, restenosis, thrombosis or aneurysmal enlargement of the coronary artery lumens; heart chamber size; heart muscle contraction performance; and some aspects of heart valve function. Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or Heart Bypass is a type of surgery that improves blood flow to the heart. Surgeons use CABG to treat people who have severe coronary heart disease (CHD). Since Longer life expectancy has led to an increased incidence of cardiovascular disease and consequently to an increasing number of primary and secondary coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) operations in the elderly. A secondary Bypass surgery is called a Redo Bypass Surgery. Redo Bypass is a relatively difficult procedure and requires an extensive experience by the heart surgeon an extensive to perform the heart bypass surgery. Read More

Heart Valve Replacement

Heart valve replacement is a surgical procedure that is performed to replace a valve that is not functioning correctly. The heart has four valves that direct blood flow through the heart in one direction. Pressure changes on either side of each valve cause flaps to open and close with each heartbeat to regulate blood flow. Generally two types of heart valve are replaced, namely mitral and aortic heart valve. Heart valve replacement is done when the valve gets damaged due to stenosis, leakage, regurgitation or rheumatic fever. It is mostly done as an open heart surgery but the technology has advanced to minimally invasive valve replacement surgery. Read More

ASD/VSD Closure

Signs and symptoms are related to the type and severity of the heart defect. Symptoms frequently present early in life, but it's possible for some CHDs to go undetected throughout life. Some children have no signs while others may exhibit shortness of breath, cyanosis, syncope, heart murmur, under-developing of limbs and muscles, poor feeding or growth, or respiratory infections. Congenital heart defects cause abnormal heart structure resulting in production of certain sounds called heart murmur. These can sometimes be detected by auscultation; however, not all heart murmurs are caused by congenital heart defects. Read More

Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD)

A left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is a pump that we use for patients who have reached end-stage heart failure. We surgically implant the LVAD, a battery-operated, mechanical pump, which then helps the left ventricle (main pumping chamber of the heart) pump blood to the rest of the body. The job of the LVAD is to help your weakened left ventricle pump blood. Unlike in the past, LVAD devices are now portable. This means you can return home with the LVAD and continue your normal activities while waiting for a heart to become available. Read More

Heart Pacemaker

A pacemaker is an electrically charged medical device. Your surgeon implants it under your skin to help manage irregular heartbeats called arrhythmias. Modern pacemakers have two parts. One part, called the pulse generator, contains the battery and the electronics that control your heartbeat. The other part is one or more leads to send electrical signals to your heart. Leads are small wires that run from the pulse generator to your heart. Read More
